This weekend, I stumbled upon an article titled “The View From Above”, noticing its beautiful graphics, sound editing, and animations. Turns out, it was an article sponsored by allbirds, a San-Francisco-based direct-to-consumer startup aimed at designing environmentally-friendly footwear. As someone who owns four pairs of allbirds, I appreciate the comfort and design of their shoes as well as their environmentally-conscious messaging. However, learning from Karl Ulrich from my Product Design class about how the brand spent millions initially on just the logo (not even the shoe design), and how to create a sense of identity in FNAR 264, I now understand just how powerful image and brand identity is.
