Jessica Hess is an artist whose paintings are soon to be featured in an exhibition entitled, “The Chaos Aesthetic” at Hashimoto Contemporary SF. Her paintings depict chaotic, saturated-in-decay urban spaces from points of view that are almost cinematic. While her depicted buildings, plots, and graffiti are contemporary, her paintings are undeniably reminiscent of the works of some earlier modernist sculptors that came before her, namely Rachel Whiteread’s castings of rooms and buildings, as well as Gordan Matta Clark’s split houses.
