Over spring break I went to Costa Rica. In my preparation I noticed that the currency (the Costa Rican colon) is much different from the US dollar. I think that the colon counts as art because of its vibrant colors and detailed animals. The usage of multiple colors contrasts with the USD’s boring monochrome, and serve as a quick identifier of different quantities. Another difference is the emphasis on important animals and insects in addition to important people. I think that the respect for the natural environment is really captured by the display of it on the colon.
