Yesterday was the centenary of the founding of the famous Bauhaus art school. The school was a space for Modernist art founded in 1919 and one of the first institutions to combine fine arts, design, architecture, and bring industrial practices into the world of art. The school was shut down due to Nazi occupation, but it’s ideas still persist today in a number of different forms. The Bauhaus legacy is complicated in that it’s radical history and goals may be partially overshadowed by it’s brand used to sell.
