A Quarter Mile Long Painting

It takes Robert Rauschenberg a quarter of a mile to walk from his house to his studio. So to honor a day in his life, he created a painting, appropriately called The 1/4 Mile, that spans a quarter of a mile. It is a collection of found objects, ranging from cardboard boxes to lost books, and the repurposed objects are actually very reminiscent of those in Cecilia Vicuna’s exhibition that was on display at the ICA.
