The Evolution of the Latin Alphabet

Our recent project relates significantly to common symbols we use to depict our world and ways that we can convey meaning without portraying their literal visual. One symbol that we often overlook though, is the modern Latin alphabet, something that has been constantly evolving for hundreds of years. Matt Baker, a designer who creates visual guides, designed an infographic following the “Evolution of the Alphabet”, showing how symbols can change and still display the same linguistic meaning. More of his work can be found on http://usefulcharts.com where he also designs thorough family tree diagrams and timelines, to list a few of his other projects. His project does an incredible job of relaying a very complex history in an approachable way, which can be a difficult result to achieve.
